Naramata Bench to host seminars
Okanagan B.C.'s Naramata Bench Wineries Association will hold a series of wine seminars starting in early May with pending dates in July and September. The "Unfiltered" seminars May 5 and 6 will include vineyard tours and tastings, wine and food pairing instruction, winemaker lunches and dinners and accommodations, for $799 per person. Two Mountain revamps branding
Brothers Matthew and Patrick Rawn, owners of Two Mountain Winery, Yakima, Wash., introduced a new logo and label for the winery and estate vineyard they purchased from their late uncle's estate in 2006. Named for Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams, backdrop for the 26-acre vineyard, the winery produces 3,000 cases annually, and production is expected to increase.
Wine economists meet in August
The American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE) will hold its second annual meeting Aug. 14-16 in Portland, Ore. AAWE also has launched a wine economics blog, with frequent postings by various authors on wine economics topics. See it at wine-econ.org.
Duck Pond names head winemaker
Duck Pond Cellars, Dundee, Ore., promoted former assistant winemaker Mark Chargin to head winemaker. Duck Pond currently produces more than 100,000 cases per year, sourced from its vineyards in the Willamette Valley and Eastern Washington's Wahluke Slope.
New Oregon winery supports education
Vista Hills Vineyard, which for 20 years supplied Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris grapes to Oregon wineries, began producing its own wines and opened its Treehouse tasting room in November and directs 10% of its profits to the Clint Foundation. Founded by Vista Hills owners John and Nancy McClintock in 1995, the foundation provides financial support to students in colleges and universities around the country. Designated 2006 Vista Hills wines are labeled with participating college names. For details, visit clintfoundation.org.
