Oregon to boost sustainable growing
The Oregon Environmental Council is working with the state legislature to establish the Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Resources Center (OSARC), to provide a one-stop resource for information about sustainable agriculture. The Oregon Department of Agriculture and Oregon State University's College of Agricultural Sciences are leading supporters of a bill to establish OSARC, which will be considered by the legislature this month. Sokol Blosser has new leadership
A second generation has taken the reins at Sokol Blosser Winery, Dundee, Ore. Co-founder Susan Sokol Blosser has retired as president, a position she had held since 1991, naming her children, Alex and Alison, as co-presidents, culminating a three-year succession process. Eldest son Nik Blosser continues in his role as board chairman.

Aussie makes white wines at Ste. Michelle
Chateau Ste. Michelle, Woodinville, Wash., chose Australian Wendy Stuckey as its new white winemaker, reporting to head winemaker Bob Bertheau. Previously, she was at the Fosters Group's Wolf Blass Winery.

Oregon is recycling corks
ReCork America is a pilot program from supplier Amorim Cork America that aims to recycle 1 ton of natural wine corks this year--approximately 300,000 corks overall. Cork collection sites will include wineries, retailers, restaurants, grocery stores and other locations where wine is consumed or purchased. ReCork is investigating various processing options for the recycled corks, including green building materials, flooring and insulation. For details, visit recorkamerica.com.

Umpqua Valley group plans event
The Umpqua Valley Winegrowers Association scheduled its Greatest of the Grape wine and food fest, themed Grape Expectations, for March 15 in Canyonville, Ore. Participating wineries include Abacela, Anindor, Bradley, Brandborg, Girardet, Henry Estate, MarshAnne Landing, Melrose, Misty Oaks, Palotai, River's Edge, Sienna Ridge, Spangler and Wild Rose, plus the new tasting rooms of Julianna and Becker. Michaud promoted at Ash Hollow
Ash Hollow winery, Walla Walla Valley, Wash., promoted former assistant winemaker Justin Michaud to winemaker.

Domaine Serene names sales director
Domaine Serene, Dayton, Ore., promoted Allan Carter to director of sales and marketing. He's been with Domaine Serene since 2005.
