Mattituck, N.Y. -- Macari Vineyards & Winery, on the North Fork of Eastern Long Island, announced its acquisition of Galluccio Family Winery in nearby Cutchogue. The reported purchase price of $2.375 million includes a primary winery and tasting room, another structure and 41 acres, 22 planted to red Bordeaux grapes.

The Galluccio family purchased the former Gristina winery in 2000, but in 2005, put the property on the market, citing health issues, and a desire to spend more time with family in Italy. Vincent Galluccio later took the winery off the market, and earlier this year sold half of the original 82-acre parcel to the Peconic Land Trust for $1.2 million.

Gallucio is located on heavily traveled Rte. 25, while the original Macari winery is on Rte. 48, locally known as the North Road. Macari will now have two tasting rooms, and plans to start its operation on Rte. 25 this spring.

The Macari family has owned its 500-acre waterfront estate for nearly 50 years, and established its vineyards in 1995. Joseph Macari, Jr., is recognized as a pioneer in the movement toward organic and sustainable farming in the area, and has employed Biodynamic farming principles since he began planting his 180 acres of vineyards.
