Philo, Calif.—Jeff Hansen is stepping down as winemaker of Lula Cellars in the Anderson Valley of Mendocino County. Hansen founded the winery and named it after his grandmother. He will retain the title of founder and serve as winemaker emeritus and consultant.

Hansen’s career in wine began in 1987 when he took a position in the tasting room of Spring Mountain Vineyard in Napa Valley. That same year he made his first wine at home, a Cabernet Sauvignon using grapes from Spring Mountain. Later, while working in sales for Spring Mountain, he discovered the Anderson Valley region in Mendocino County. In 1991, Hansen started making wines for Amici Cellars in Calistoga, Calif., and worked there for nearly 20 years. In 2009 he sold his interest in Amici and purchased property in the Anderson Valley and opened the winery in 2010.
