AVA group hires leader
Washington state’s Red Mountain AVA Alliance (RMAVAA) appointed Heather Unwin as executive director. Since 2007 Unwin has been the executive vice president for marketing at Terra Blanca Winery & Estate Vineyard, where she will continue in an advisory capacity. Details: redmountainava.com.
Oregon wine auction raises funds
Classic Wines Auction announced that it raised more than $2.42 million for charities in the Portland, Ore., area. More than 700 people gathered at the Oregon Convention Center on March 17 to raise funds for charities benefiting children and families. The total includes event sponsorships, auction prizes, wine packages, attendee contributions and 45 winemaker dinners at local restaurants.
New head winemaker at Bergevin
Bergevin Lane Vineyards in Walla Walla, Wash., hired Dave Harvey as head winemaker. Harvey has more than 19 years of winemaking experience in Washington state. Details: bergevinlane.com.
Winery auction deferred
The auction of Cave B Estate Winery and resort property in Washington state’s Columbia Gorge has been deferred. The property was set to go under the gavel at the Hilton Seattle Airport and Conference Center on March 15 in a sale managed by the auction services division of CBRE Inc. Offered on an as-is, where-is basis, the properties were headlined by the Cave B Inn & Spa and 25 adjacent yurts on 31.5 acres of land, as well as the 10-acre Cave B Winery and 269 acres slated for a master-planned resort community. The minimum bid was set at $3.5 million.
