WSU debuts organic ag publication

Washington State University’s College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences has launched an electronic newsletter focused on organic and sustainable agriculture. Subscriptions to the new, monthly e-newsletter called Green Times are free. Dan Bernardo, dean of CAHNRS, said the new publication will publish current research news, profiles of farmers and other regional industry professionals, publicize events and act as a focal point for the regional organic community. King Estate installs solar system
King Estate Winery, Eugene, Ore., is joining forces with SolarCity, Lane Electric Co-op and Advanced Energy Systems to install one of the largest solar power systems in the Northwest. King Estate will purchase electricity produced by the new photovoltaic array system through a power-purchase agreement with SolarCity. The nearly 1-megawatt array will supply roughly 60% of King Estate’s electricity load. See kingestate.com for details.

Shoup’s achievements honored
Sunset magazine honored Allen Shoup at the Western Wine Awards ceremony with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Shoup, founder of Walla Walla, Wash.-based Long Shadows Vintners and former chief executive of what is now Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, is the second recipient of the honor.
