Vintage will build Red Mountain complex
Washington has leased 404 acres of state land in the Red Mountain AVA to Vintage Partners, which plans to develop a vineyard and winemaking complex to accommodate about a dozen wineries in shared crush facilities. The development will include a 75,000 square-foot piazza with guest rooms. The 55-year lease will bring about $500,000 per year to the state school trust fund.

Revana expands with Oregon purchase
Cardiologist Dr. Madaiah Revana, who founded Revana Family Vineyard on an 11-acre property in Napa Valley's St. Helena in 1997, recently acquired an additional 80 acres in Oregon's Willamette Valley. The property, which is being named Alexana, was formerly owned by Central Coast vintner Chuck Ortman (see, Chuck Ortman Interview). Revana plans to produce Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris at Alexana; 16 acres are already planted to 4-year-old vines, and another 36 are available for vineyard development.

Foris Vineyards changes hands
Southern Oregon's Foris Vineyards is now under the sole ownership of Ted and Terri Gerber, who acquired the interests of previous partners Russell and Elizabeth Berard. Industry veteran Bryan Wilson was named winemaker.

Charles Lill died Jan. 12
Co-founder of DeLille Cellars, Woodinville, Wash., Charles Lill succumbed after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Raised in Europe, he moved to Canada before relocating to Washington, where he started an insurance business. In 1992, he became the primary financier of DeLille Cellars, and was considered a pioneer of the state's wine industry. In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions to the Washington Wine Industry Foundation.
