The focus is on France this week, with columns praising the wines of Languedoc-Roussillon from both Eric Asimov in the New York Times and Dave McIntyre in the Washington PostLaurie Daniel, writing in the San Jose Mercury News, chimes in with nice comments for white wines of the Loire Valley.  And in the Houston Chronicle, Kevin Zraly has good things to say about Alsace and its versatile wines.  JG

San Francisco Chronicle:  Wine editor Jon Bonne on the Pinot Noir wines of Anderson Valley.  Praise for some better-known producers like Navarro and Copain, as well as newer entries from Breggo Cellars, Drew, and McPhail.  (Link)

Sacramento Bee:  Wine columnist Chris Macias on red wines for fall.  Recommended are Vale do Bofim Douro Valley 2006, Concannon Central Coast Selected Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, and Twisted Rivers Raven 2006.  (Link)

Santa Rosa Press Democrat:  Wine columnist Dan Berger on finding food-friendly wines.  Also, nice comments on Kenwood Pinot Noir Rose 2008.  (Link)

San Jose Mercury News:  Wine columnist Laurie Daniel on white wines from the Loire.  Recommended are Pouilly Fume wines from Michel Redde, Domaine Alain Cailbourdin, Henri Bourgeois, and de Ladoucette.  From Menetou-Salon, the picks come from Domaine Henry Pelle, and Philippe Gilbert.  From Quincy, Domaine Sylvain Bailly gets the nod.  Recommended from the Touraine are wines of Francoic Chidaine, Joel Delaunay, Remy Pannier, and Domaine Chinier.  Also recommended are Sauvignon Blanc wines from Patient Cottat, and Pascal Jolivet.  (Link)
