The yin and yang of the U.S. economy can be seen in two columns this week. In the New York Times, wine columnist Eric Asimov details the effects of falling prices on California winegrape growers and wineries, while columnists Gaiter and Brecher, writing in the Wall Street Journal, find many values for consumers among the price reductions for Bordeaux wines of the 2005 vintage. Also on the value theme, columnist Bob Hosmon, writing the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, finds several inexpensive wines to recommend, including some in magnum bottles and boxes. JG
