Wines from the Sonoma Coast get lots of attention and praise this week, with the San Fracisco Chronicle recommending several Chardonnay wines, while Laurie Daniel, writing in the San Jose Mercury News, has nice things to say for Pinot Noir wines from the Freestone area within the Sonoma Coast AVA. Meanwhile, Bill Daley, writing in the Chicago Tribune, cites many Malbec wines from Argentina as great values. And columnists Gaiter and Brecher of the Wall Street Journal offer advise for 'Open That Bottle Night' preparations. John Gillespi

New York Times: Wine columnist Eric Asimov on the debut of City Winery in New York City.

Wall Street Journal: Wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher on their upcoming 'Open That Bottle Night.' Their choice this year is Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut 1991.

Business Week: Wine writer Nick Passmore has nice things to say for Domaine du Cote Tariquet Chardonnay Sauvignon Blanc 2007.

Bloomberg News Service: Wine columnist Elin McCoy on dramatically reduced prices of top wines during the financial crisis. Examples include big discounts on Cheval Blanc 2005, Opus One 2005, Chateau Lafite 2005, and Chateau Latour 2005.

Financial Times: Wine columnist Jancis Robinson on a new crop of negociants in Burgundy, and their wines. Nice comments for Pascal Lachaux, Nicolas Potel, Benjamin Leroux, Olivier Bernstein, and Domaine Eugenie. Tasting notes on a few of their wines, as well.

Boston Globe: Wine columnist Stephen Meuse on red wines for winter enjoyment. Featured are Chateau Valcombe Cotes de Ventoux 2004, Guidobono Barbera d'Alba 2007, Cella Vinaria 'Jacques de la Jugie' Minervois 2006, Chateau de Pitray Cotes de Castillon 2005, and Campo Viejo Crianza Rioja 2005.

San Francisco Chronicle: The Chronicle tasting panel reviews Chardonnay wines from the Sonoma Coast appellation. No ratings, but favorites cited are Keller Estate La Cruz Vineyard 2005, Kokomo Peters Vineyard 2006, Testarossa La Cruz Vineyard 2006, Landmark Heintz Vineyard 2006, and Ovation 2006.

San Jose Mercury News: Wine columnist Laurie Daniel on Pinot Noir wines from the Freestone area in Sonoma County. Praise for Dutton Goldfield Freestone Hill 2006, Freestone Vineyards 2006, Fogdog 2006, Radio Coteau Terra Nuema 2006, Chasseur Freestone Station 2006, and Marimar Estate Dona Margarita Vineyard 2006. Highest praise, though, goes to Cobb Emmaline Vineyard 2006 for its elegance.

Washington Post: Wine columnist Dave McIntyre on the emergence of 'fair trade' wines on the market. Best comments for Stellar Organics Pinotage and Live -a-Little Really Ravishing Red.

Houston Chronicle: Wine columnist Dale Robertson on the results of a recent tasting panel review of wines. Favorites are Stuhmuller Vineyards Alexander Valley Estate Chardonnay 2006, and Yalumba 'Patchwork' Shiraz 2006.

Dallas Morning News: The tasting panel picks good value red wines. The winners are Magnificent Wine Co. House Wine 2006, Anura Pinotage 2007, Castano Hecula Monastrell Yecla 2005, Jasci Montepulciano D'Abruzzo Cerasuolo 2007, and Marchese Adorno Bonarda 2007.

Rocky Mountain News: Wine columnist Ben Weinberg on wines for cellaring. Nice mentions for Laetitia Brut Cuvee, Jacob's Creek Sparkling Rose, Brokenwood Semillon, Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer Reserve, Fratelli Revello Barbera d'Alba, and Alamos Malbec Seleccion. Praise also for Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon 1994.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Wine writer Bob Hosmon on the evolution of style at Sequoia Grove Winery. Good comments on the Carneros Chardonnay 2007, the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, and the Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2004.

Sarasota Herald-Tribune: Wine columnist Dan Berger on Brunello wines. Recommendations for Pinino Brunello 2003, Pinino Rosso di Montalcino 2006, and Pinino ClanDestino 2006.

Nashville Tennessean: Wine columnist Frank Sutherland on white wines from Languedoc. Top choice is L'Archet Cuvee Occitane 2006.

Chicago Tribune: Wine reporter Bill Daley on the growing popularity of Malbec wines from Argentina. On another page, highest rating goes to Cellar Door Malbec Diseno 2006.

The Oregonian: Wine columnist Matt Kramer on Lambrusco wines. To be taken seriously are Villa di Corlo Corleto Lambrusco and Grasparossa di Castelvetro 'Amabile' Villa di Corlo Lambrusco.

Vinography: Wine blogger Alder Yarrow profiles Cooper Mountain Vineyards in the Willamette Valley, and offers praise for the 20th Anniversary Reserve Pinot Noir 2007.

Dr. Vino: Wine blogger Tyler Colman on an encore segment of 'The French Paradox' on CBS, with nice mention for Lopez de Heredia wines from Rioja.

Veritas in Vino: Wine blogger Alice Feiring on her visit to a biodynamic wine exposition in France. Interesting tasting note on an organic wine from Poland.
