Very interesting article this week from Eric Asimov in the New York Times, who reviews Aglianico wines from Italy. Pinot Noir wines from around the globe capture the attention of both Ben Weinberg in the Rocky Mountain News and Peter Gianotti in Newsday. And Paul Lucaks, writing in the Washington Times, offers some insights on the growing popularity of Riesling.  John Gillespie

Wall Street Journal: Wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher on Gigondas wines for fall enjoyment. Lots of praise for the appellation, with Domaine Piaugier 2005 tops in tasting, while Pierre Amadieu Romane Machotte 2004 is cited for value.

Business Week: Wine critic Robert Parker on wines from the Hartford Family Winery. Top rating goes to the Chardonnay Stone Cote 2006.

Bloomberg News Service: Wine columnist Elin McCoy on the man in charge of buying wine for the White House. Along the way, nice mentions for wines from Shafer, HdV, Dominus, Domaine Chandon, Newton, Peter Michael, Biltmore Estate, and Etude.

Newsday: Staff writer Peter Gianotti recommends numerous Pinot Noir wines, including those of Sartori di Verona, Sterling, Kim Crawford, Acacia, Lynmar Estate, Etude, and Goldeneye. Also, nice comment on Palmer Vineyards White Riesling 2007.

Boston Globe: Wine columnist Stephen Meuse on vintner Abe Schoener and his Scholium Project wines. Tasting notes on several.

San Francisco Chronicle: The Chronicle tasting panel reviews Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Highest recommendations go to Sbragia Family Vineyards Monte Rosso Vineyard 2005, and Pellegrini Family Vineyards Cloverdale Rance 2005.

San Jose Mercury News: Wine columnist Laurie Daniel on unusual grape varieties and California vintners who are embracing them. Dozens of examples cited from wineries such as Kenneth Volk Vineyards, Fortitude, Fenestra, Murrieta's Well, De Rose Vineyards, Tangent, Wild Horse, Ca' del Solo, David Noyes, August Ridge, and others.

Washington Times: Wine columnist Paul Lukacs reports on the recent Riesling Rendezvous and the growing popularity of Riesling wines. Tasting notes on ten favorites, with Chateau Ste. Michelle Dry Columbia Valley Riesling 2006 named best value.

Washington Post: Wine writers Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg pair wines with the personality profiles of the Enneagram. Nice mentions for wines from Tapena, Kim Crawford, Neal Family, Muga, Tortoise Creek, Clayhouse, Faiveley, Matanzas Creek, and Omrah. Karen's top choice is J Cuvee Russian River Valley Brut NV, while Andrew favors Provenance Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2005.

Houston Chronicle: Wine columnist Dale Robertson on new wines from Don Sebastiani & Sons and also from vintner Rob McDonald. Praise for McDonald's latest offering - Girls in the Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, and several from Don and Sons, including a newly released Petite Sirah. Also, local Houston wine buyer recommends Roagna Igino 'Perpetua' Barbera d'Alba 2005.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Wine writer Gil Kulers on the Mollydooker winery and their habit of shaking up their wines. Recommendations for several of these, including Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz 2006.

Arizona Republic: Wine columnist Mark Tarbell offers tasting notes on wines in half bottles. Highest rating goes to Calera Pinot Noir 2006.

Minneapolis Star Tribune: Wine writer Bill Ward on local wine bars. Nice comments this week for Valle Dell'Acate Il Frappato 2006.

Rocky Mountain News: Wine columnist Ben Weinberg on Pinot Noir wines for fall enjoyment. Recommended are offerings from Graham Beck, Vavasour, Willamette Estate, Erath, Savannah-Channelle, Chateau St. Jean, Ambroise, Marechal, and Louis Latour.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Wine writer Bob Hosmon on wines from Argentina and Chile. Recommended are Trapiche Chardonnay 2007, Trapiche Torrontes 2007, Montes Classic Series Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Cavia Reserva Malbec 2006, and Montes Classic Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2007.
