Very thorough and thoughtful piece on the evolution of Pinot Noir styles by Laurie Daniel in the San Jose Mercury News. Patrick Comiskey, writing in the Los Angeles Times, offers a very ecclectic selection of wines for spring enjoyment. And Eric Asimov, in the New York Times, has many nice things to say about the Chinon wines of the 2005 vintage.  John Gillespie

Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Wine writer Jeff Siegel suggests Dario D'Angelo Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2006.

Los Angeles Times: Wine writer Irene Virbila picks Patrick Bottex Vin du Bugey-Cerdon 'La Cueille' NV.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Wine columnist Bob Hosmon picks Chateau Ste. Michelle Horse Heaven Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2006.

Denver Post: Wine columnist Tara Q. Thomas recommends Chateau d'Aqueria Tavel Rose 2006, and also Domaine Chandon Rose NV.

Dallas Morning News: Wine columnist Rebecca Murphy picks Domaine Matrot meursault 2005.

New York Times: Wine columnist Eric Asimov on Chinon wines from the 2005 vintage. Lots of nice things to say, and top choice is Daniel Chauveau Chinon 2005, while best value nod goes to Domaine du Grand Breviande 2005.

Wall Street Journal: Wine columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher on Merlot wines priced between $20 and $50. Not many nice things to say for the group, but praise for Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Merlot 2004, and (as a value) Markham Vineyards Merlot 2004.

New York Daily News: Staff writer Amy Cortese on wines for spring. Recommended are Planeta La Segreta Bianco 2006, Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Ravines Dry Riesling 2006, Terre Grillo, Lapalu Brouilly Vieilles Vignes 2006, Cantina Nalles Magre Schiava Grigia 2006, and Crios de Susana Balbo Malbec Rose 2007.

Business Week: Wine critic Robert Parker on Sauvignon Blanc wines from California. Highest rated are Sage 2006, and Dry Stack Rosemary's Block 2006.

Bloomberg News Service: Wine columnist Elin McCoy on the white Burgundy wines of the 2006 vintage. Much praise, and nice comments for offerings from Moreau, Domaine Collet, Domaine William Fevre, Maison Champy, Matrot, and La Soufrandiere.

USA Today: Wine columnist Jerry Shriver recommends Moon Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005.

Newark Star-Ledger: Wine writer T. J. Foderaro on ingredient labeling in wine. Focus is on Bonny Doon, with recommendations for the Ca' del Solo Albarino 2007 and Muscat 2007.

Philadelphia Inquirer: Staff writer Craig LaBan on outstanding finds in local restaurants. Example is Ver Sacrum Montepulciano.

San Francisco Chronicle: The Chronicle tasting panel reviews Chardonnay wines from the Pacific Northwest. Rated highest are Columbia Winery Columbia Valley Chardonnay 2005, Argyle Nuthouse Reserve Series Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2005, and Adelsheim Caitlin's Reserve Willamette Valley Chardonnay 2006.

Sacramento Bee: Wine columnist Mike Dunne on the wine tasting theories of Master of Wine Tim Hanni.

San Jose Mercury News: Wine columnist Laurie Daniel on trends in Pinot Noir production. Nice comments for several from Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier, including the Chambolle-Musigny2004, Clos de la Marechale 2004, and Musigny 2004. Central Coast Pinot Noir wines praised incuded offerings from Stephen Ross Wine Cellars, Kenneth Volk, Rusak Vineyards, Arcadian Winery, Michaud Vineyard, Cima Collina, Saintsbury, Chehalem, and Elk Cove.

Los Angeles Times: Guest writer Patrick Comiskey on white wines for spring. Recommended are New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wines from Drylands, Kim Crawford, and Leeuwin Estate. Also earning favor are Der Pollerhof Niederosterreich Gruner Veltliner 2007, Petra Florina Kir-Yianni Roditis 2006, Niedrist Sudtirol Terlaner Sauvignon 2006, Primosic Vipava Slovenian Vitovska 2006, Vietti Roero Arneis 2006, Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis 2006, and Cambiata Monterey County Albarino 2006.

San Diego Union Tribune: Wine columnist Robert Whitley reports on gold medal winning wines from the Monterey Wine Competition, and lists dozens of them retailing for less than $25.

Washington Post: Wine writers Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg on wines for Easter. Recommended are Chateau Frank Cremant NV, Fontana Candida Frascati 2006, Chateau Ste. Michelle Eroica 2006, and three from Tapestry - the McLaren Vale Chardonnay 2006, Vincent Shiraz 2004, and MV Shiraz 2006. Karen's top choice is Dr. Konstantin Frank Dry Riesling 2006, while Andrew suggests Jacob's Creek Reserve Pinot Noir 2005.

Houston Chronicle: Wine columnist Dale Robertson on wine prices in restaurants. Local wine expert Guy Stoudt recommends Perrin Reserve Cotes du Rhone 2004. Robertson recommends El Felino Malbec 2006 as a bargain.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Wine writer Gil Kulers on Chardonnay. Highest praise for Carmel Road Chardonnay 2006, and Seco Highlands Chardonnay 2005.

Arizona Republic: Wine columnist Mark Tarbell offers tasting notes on affordable wines for entertaining. Top choices are Ruffino Orvieto 2007, Blackstone Chardonnay 2006, and Echelon Merlot 2003.

Miami Herald: Wine columnist Fred Tasker on wines aimed at wine drinkers 21 to 35 years of age. Case in point is the Sacre Bleu brand, and recommended are the Unoaked Chardonnay 2006, White Blend 2006, Pinot Noir 2006, and Cuvee Gustave Fayet 2004. On another page, a recommendation for Leasingham Magnus Shiraz 2006.

Nashville Tennessean: Wine columnist Frank Sutherland on Merlot wines from Chile. Rated highest is Montes Classic Merlot 2006.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune: Wine columnist Bill Ward on how wine habits differ by gender.

Chicago Tribune: Wine reporter Bill Daley on wines from the 2005 vintage in Bordeaux with Easter dinner. Most highly recommended are Chateau Barreyre, La Petite Echoppe, Chateau Messile-Aubert, Chateau Barrabaque Prestige, Chateau Tour Seran, and Chateau La Rousselle.

The Oregonian: Wine columnist Matt Kramer on wines with personality. Cases in point are Flor del Montgo Monastrell Yecla 2006, and Vignalta Pinot Bianco 'Colli Euganei' 2006.
