ASEV Will Eliminate Trade Show
The American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV) will discontinue the trade show portion of its June Annual Meeting, beginning in 2009. Barras Purchase Redwood Valley
Charles and Martha Barra, Mendocino County grapegrowers and wine producers, bought out Redwood Valley Cellars, a 50-acre custom crushing, vineyard and tasting room facility near Ukiah. They had shared joint ownership with the Bill Pauli family for 12 years. The Barras have hired Dan Kopache, veteran of Benziger, Kendall-Jackson and Fetzer, as winemaker.
Buena Vista to Celebrate 150 Years
Buena Vista, Sonoma, Calif., will mark the 150th anniversary of its founding with a gala celebration at the winery on Sept. 7. U.S. Congressmen Mike Thompson and George Radanovich are expected to attend the event, which will feature food from local restaurants and live music. Wertzberger Wine, Cloverdale, Sonoma County, launched its inaugural vintage June 9 at F. Teldeschi Winery in Dry Creek Valley, where owner Bill Wertzberger is assistant winemaker. Wertzberger's brand specializes in microproduction Syrah, Grenache, Carignane and Merlot wines.
