Winery launches alcohol-free, THC infused wine
Sonoma, Calif.—Rebel Coast Winery unveiled a dealcoholized Sauvignon Blanc wine that has been infused with psychoactive THC compounds derived from cannabis. The product, set to coincide with the legalization of recreational cannabis in California, will be available in dispensaries in 2018. The wine delivers four milligrams of THC per glass providing effects in less than 15 minutes.
“We wanted to excite the rebellious spirit in Americans through innovation, so we took two world-class California products — marijuana and wine — and created a proprietary process that resulted in a delicious, crisp and elegantly crafted Sauvignon Blanc that’s teed up to be a game changer for the wine and cannabis industries,” said Rebel Coast co-founder Alex Howe in a statement announcing the new product.
Grapes for the wine are sourced from Sonoma County and undergo traditional winemaking before the wine is dealcoholized and then infused at a rate that delivers 16 milligrams of THC per bottle. The THC also incorporates aromatic terpene compounds to the wine to add marijuana aromas. The wine will retail for $59.99 on the Rebel Coast website and will be available for pre-order before distribution to 500 dispensaries through Green Reef Distributing.
The company has plans to release a Rosé and sparkling wine as well as line of canabidiol (CBD) infused products that have medicinal benefits but no intoxicating effects.
