Balloon-like mechanism keeps wine fresh
Date: 02/14/12

MASON, Ohio -- The Wine Balloon, which when placed in a bottle of red wine will keep its contents fresh longer than a traditional cork or other toppers, was featured in an episode of ABC-TVs "Shark Tank," on the Friday evening, February 10, 2012 (8:00 - 9:00pm, ET).

Consumers often re-cork their bottles once opened, with the original cork provided by the winery. However, once exposed to air, red wine begins to turn sour and spoil within a day.

The Wine Balloon, from Metroplex Services, reduces the oxidation of red wine, prolonging its shelf life by three to four days by eliminating air contact with the wine completely. The balloon in The Wine Balloon expands inside the bottle to essentially provide a complete seal. When inserted, it creates a seal at the surface of the wine regardless of the amount remaining in the bottle.

This differs from the old-fashioned method of simply returning the cork to the bottle, which actually traps the air inside, causing the taste to sour. The Wine Balloon is designed to keep out air, preserving the true flavor of the grape.

"The Wine Balloon is the only wine preservation device that you can actually see and know that it's working," said Eric Corti, inventor. "Our product stands the test of time, the consumer can literally see from the outside that it is sealed, and taste the difference once it hits the palette."

"Shark Tank" airs Fridays at 8:00pm on ABC. The broadcast features billionaire Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, inventor of retail products and often referred to as the "Queen of QVC," real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran, technology innovator Robert Herjavec, fashion and branding expert Daymond John and venture capitalist Kevin O'Leary. The panel of Sharks hears pitches of the best business and product ideas from some of America's brightest entrepreneurs. When the Sharks hear a great idea, they're ready to fight each other for a piece of it.

Available nationwide at www.WineBalloon.com, the Wine Balloon retails for $22.
