Post Your Support for New UC Extension StaffThe University of California, Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology has proposed two new UC extension staff positions that are currently being reviewed by the state for funding. The department is asking those in the industry to post comments of support to demonstrate the value and need for more skilled extension specialists. “We feel that both of these positions will significantly strengthen our extension continuum from farm advisor to CE Specialist to on-campus faculty positions,” department chair David Block said in an email. “We hope you will go online right away and voice your support.”
The department is proposing to add a specialist position with microbiology expertise to complement the current wine chemistry staff. Block noted there’s currently one specialist in enology serving the more than 4,000 wineries in California. Comment on that proposal here: ucanr.edu
The other post is a specialist with expertise in vineyard mechanization for all grapes and who would complement the other two specialists at the based at the Kearney Ag Research Center To support that post visit: ucanr.edu
